September 20th Luncheon Postponed

(8/9/21)   Events Chairman Lee Pittman has asked that the following announcement be posted here and sent as an eblast to everyone on our email list.

Due to the dangers surrounding the Covid 19 Delta Variant and the possibility of spreading it to even those of us that have been vaccinated, we have made what we believe is a sound and safe decision to postpone our September 20th luncheon at The Club and Sunday evening at SoHo.

This was a difficult decision to make, but we believe this is in everyone's best interest. When conditions permit us to get together safely, we can reschedule or meet again in September 2022.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Why "Bama Pikes at Lunch"?

Pike fraternity pinThis the website for a group of Pi Kappa Alpha alumni who were members of the Gamma Alpha Chapter at the University of Alabama during what we like to call the golden years from 1950 to 1970.

Many of us have kept up with brothers in our respective classes and have met informally for lunch or dinner from time to time.  In the fall of 2016, Huntsville brothers organized an informal lunch and over 20 locals attended.  In July 2017, Byrd Latham '59, Jim Davis '58, Stanley "Chickenman" Rodgers '59 and Bob Bentley '59 hatched the idea of holding a luncheon in Birmingham. Bentley was selected as the contact person in Birmingham and tasked with locating and notifying the local brothers in the area and elsewhere.  He sent emails to 60 names and 30 brothers responded said that they would attend!

In the middle of August, it was decided that a website should be used for sharing information and harvesting more contact information for "missing" brothers.  And so, this site was created with the name Bama Pikes at Lunch.  Why? The name was chosen in order to avoid being confused with any existing alumni group.

After a only month, we expanded our email contact list to 105 valid addresses, and the total number of names of members from 1953 through 1974 to 510!  As of 9/25/17 we had 54 brothers who attended the luncheon at the Gallery and Garden..

If you are not receiving our email notifications, send your email address to Admin@Bama-Pikes-at-Lunch.org.  Help us find other brothers who are among the "missing" and share their phone and email contacts with us, too.  See list of missing on the Members Page.  We will be sending out photos from this event and announcements and news of interest to everyone in the future.

Pi Kappa Alpha Preamble

For the establishment of friendship on a firmer and more lasting basis;
for the promotion of brotherly love and kind feeling;

We have resolved to form a fraternity, believing that, thus we can most successfully accomplish our object.
